Nitrogen tyre inflation
Why Nitrogen?
Filling your tyres with nitrogen instead of compressed air means that your tyre pressure will remain at the recommended threshold for longer. The rate at which nitrogen passes through tyre walls is slower than regular air.
Our cutting-edge equipment removes the existing air in your tyres and refills them with purified nitrogen. Nitrogen inflation keeps your tyres at the correct pressure for longer.
This also reduces fuel costs, increases tyre life, improves handling, and lowers Co2 emissions.

The science behind nitrogen tyre inflation
Here at Andrew Dodds Autocare in Ayr, we recommend nitrogen over compressed air. Although tyres operate well with normal air inflation, nitrogen can improve your tyre life and performance. Below are three main benefits of nitrogen inflation.
Slows Pressure Loss
When you opt for nitrogen-filled tyres, the pressure loss slows by about 40 per cent. Nitrogen leaks less than normal air, ensuring your tyres maintain better pressure for longer. This results in superior tyre performance, safety, and fuel mileage.
Minimise Vapour
Tyres don’t do well with internal water vapour, and thankfully, nitrogen gas is usually very dry. Vapor can cause fluctuating air pressure with temperature changes, making it more challenging to maintain the appropriate tyre pressure.
Less tyre degradation
Nitrogen inflation reduces the rate of the thermo-oxidative process, which can cause the degradation of rubber over time. Ordinary air is composed of 78 per cent nitrogen, but the remaining percentage of oxygen is what reacts with the rubber as it diffuses through it.
What is nitrogen tyre inflation?
Nitrogen tyre inflation is when you fill your tyres with pure nitrogen as opposed to normal compressed air.
Pure nitrogen is a non-flammable gas that doesn’t absorb moisture, making it a better choice for your tyres. In fact, it’s what aviation, construction, mining, and professional racing vehicles use.
